FCCA partners with schools and local community organizations to develop high quality arts-education programs that engage participants in arts skill-building, enhance academic learning, and strengthen individuals and communities. We currently partner with the NYC Department of Education, the Center for Arts Education, the New York State Council on the Arts, the Department of Cultural Affairs and the NYC Department for Youth and Community Development to bring arts programs into schools. If you’re interested in partnering with FCCA contact: education@flushingtownhall.org
Examples of current partnerships include:
School-wide Arts Integration Partnership with JHS 189
Funded in part by NYSCA this partnership is currently in the second of a four year project plan to integrate the arts into every grade level and core subject area in the school. Teachers are partnered with FCCA teaching artists to develop innovative arts-based curriculum that supports NYS Learning Standards in the core subject area. Examples of partnerships include Math/Drama, ELA/Visual Arts, Science/Visual Arts, and Social Studies/Drama. Teachers and school administrators are offered professional development opportunities each semester to learn arts-based teaching strategies and activities they can implement into their classrooms. Students are also exposed to award-winning artists who perform at their school.
Program-based Arts Integration Partnership with IS 266
Funded in part by NYSCA this is a new partnership with the goal of planning and piloting an arts-integration program that supports IS 266’s school-wide cultural celebration event that occurs at the end of every school year.
Artists-in-Residence Program
FCCA provides experienced teaching artists in visual arts, theater, music and dance who collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop arts residencies that are age-appropriate, meet the required needs of the school, and can be designed to provide a short or long series of workshops. If you are interested in learning more about our artist-in-residence program contact education at: education@flushingtownhall.org
Parents as Arts Partners
We are partnering with JHS 231, PS 101, and the Queens School of Inquiry for Parents as Arts Partners grants provided by the Center for Arts Education. The Parents as Arts Partners program connects schools with cultural institutions to create engaging cultural arts programs for parents and/or families.
Cultural After School Adventures (CASA)
Flushing Council received a Cultural After School Adventures (CASA) grant from Councilmember John Liu to provide arts programming for JHS 189 students enrolled in after-school programs. Last year we augmented the after-school musical theater program by providing professional artistic and technical services for the students and production. The program culminated with live performances by the students of School House Rock Live Jr. at Flushing Town Hall. The funding for this program is provided by the New York City Council in partnership with the Department of Cultural Affairs and the Department for Youth and Community Development.
