Fri Oct 14th - Tue Dec 31st Exhibition: THE COLLAGE AESTHETIC OF LOUIS ARMSTRONG - In the Cause of Happiness
Did you know that jazz great Louis Armstrong was an avid collage artist? Made for an exhibition at Lincoln Center, the Louis Armstrong Collage Exhibition features reproductions of some of the remarkable collages created by Louis Armstrong affixed to the boxes of his audio tapes, and introduces audiences to this very public man who could turn his irrepressible creativity to arts other than music.
Thu May 16th - Fri Jun 21st EXHIBITION: ART AS A REFLECTION OF CULTURE
An exhibition by JHS 189’s 6th, 7th, & 8th graders will include artworks such as fashion drawings and paintings; Romare Bearden style collages about music; Pop Art sketches and paintings; Impressionistic architectural paintings; Fernand Leger inspired technology ads; Kusama and Wiley-esque portraits; Abstract compositions; a Samul Nori triptych and original manuscripts created for the Morgan Library Book Project.

Tue Dec 18th - Sun Jun 30th Space Grant at Flushing Town Hall
In 2009, FCCA developed the Space Grant to support new, emerging and mid-career artists in order to offer them a space to develop projects that share FCCA’s mission. FCCA Space Grants can be for any length of time, provided FCCA has available space. Space Grant recipients have included puppeteers, film-makers, dancers, choreographers, theatre professionals and circus artists.

Sat May 25th QUEENS JAZZ ORCHESTRA - FIESTA MOJO
The Queens Jazz Orchestra (QJO, a program of FCCA), celebrates the musical genius of Adderley, Jacquet, Basie & Ellington, all historic jazz legends who lived in Queens & are seen on FCCA’s Queens Jazz Trail Map ©. “Fiesta Mojo” is a rare Gillespie piece arranged by Jimmy Heath for the QJO. FCCA’s QJO was formed with 2 missions in mind: to honor the jazz greats who lived in Queens, and to support the future of jazz. Starts at 8:00 PM.
Sun May 26th Theo Metz - Composers’ Residency
For Families: In this free program, the culmination of his 2012-13 Exploring the Metropolis Con Edison Composers’ Residency at Flushing Town Hall, percussionist/composer Theo Metz will present a lecture/performance of original electroacoustic pieces for electronics and vibraphone. Metz will discuss his techniques and how he came to write these pieces during the residency. This event is part of Chamber Music America’s National Chamber Music Month celebration. Starts at 2:00 PM.
Fri May 31st CULTURAL CROSSROADS #5: THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC MEETS GARIFUNA FROM SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES
(DANCE LESSONS AT 7PM) We’re mixing it up! Our series continues with 2 cultures, 1 stage + an open dance floor. Merengue band Kompalsa meets The Chief Joseph Chatoyer Dance Co. & The Afri-Garifuna Jazz Ensemble (Garifuna are descendants of Carib, Arawak & West African people). Your feet will want to get up and dance! Starts at 8:00 PM.

Special guest artists: the Pablo Mayor Quintet Open to professional jazz musicians, graduate students studying jazz, and music educators. Meet new contacts, hone your chops and jam each month with your peers! Open to General Public! Starts at 7:00 PM.
Wed Jun 12th MONTHLY JAZZ CLINICS
First Wednesday of each month If you are interested in Jazz and looking to play and learn with other musicians, this jazz studies program is for you! Participants receive coaching by graduate students from the Aaron Copland School of Music: Amadis Dunkel, Sohee Kim , and Hyuna Park, and special guest teaching artists. Starts at 5:00 PM.

Guerilla concerts highlight talented jazz and classical musicians from the students & faculty of Queens College’s Aaron Copland School of Music. You never know who you’ll discover! Call the week prior for artist names. Starts at 2:00 PM.
Sat Jun 29th FAMILY WORKSHOP: WITH SUN PRINTING
For Families: Leaves, flowers, lace & feathers are common items that transfer well through Sunprinting. Bring objects to print, items with an interesting silhouette and/or are translucent, or cut paper shapes to transfer - with LICA exhibition artist Mary Pinto. Starts at 2:00 PM.
