Artist Statement

Angela Miskis is an Ecuadorian American artist and community organizer. She is the founder of Abuela Neighborhood Maintenance (ANM), a grassroots art and stewardship organization based in Southeast Queens. ANM's mission is to increase access to cultural programming and beautify public spaces suffering from neglect in their neighborhood. ANM blends art and activism to create more community unity and advocate for solutions to quality of life issues affecting their community.

About The Artist

Angela Miskis was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2013 with a degree in Visual and Critical Studies. Miskis has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Jamaica Art Center for Arts and Learning (2022), Pine Plains Free Library (2019), and the Inter-Space Gallery and Lab (2015). Miskis's works have been exhibited as part of over 30 group presentations and featured in multiple print and online publications. Miskis's recent honors include the Create Change Fellowship with The Laundromat Project, the Utopian Practice Fellowship with Culture Push, the Queens Council on the Arts New Work Grant, and the City Artists Corps Grant (2021). Miskis lives and works in Queens, NY.
