Armstrong: Past Present and Future
A WBGO “Jazz for Young People” Concert
Feat. Reggie Workman Band & Calvin Johnson's Native Son
We are thrilled to honor NEA Jazz Master Reggie Workman, a living legend known for his lifelong dedication to jazz education and performance. Reggie Workman's Current Creation for Armstrong promises to be a mesmerizing showcase of talent. Alongside him, you'll experience the incomparable David Virilles on piano, the dynamic rhythms of Gary Jones III on drums, the soulful alto saxophone of Marvin Carter, and the lyrical verses of J Swiss, a unique rap vocalist.
But that's not all...!
The stage will also come alive with the sensational Calvin Johnson Native Son Ensemble, featuring Calvin Johnson on soprano saxophone and vocals, the virtuosic Andrew Baham on trumpet and vocals, the trombone wizardry of Rashaan Salaam, the melodious keys of Andrew McGowan on piano, the resonant tones of Jason Clotter on bass, the rhythmic heartbeat of Joe Dyson on drums, the thunderous beats of Errold Lanier on bass drum, and the groovy sounds of John Altieri on the tuba. Together, they'll take you on a musical journey through the heart and soul of jazz.
And the festivities don't end there! Get ready to join the New Orleans Second Line Parade, a joyous tradition that embodies the spirit of Louis Armstrong and the vibrant culture of New Orleans.
The SATCHMO Award® is a testament to the enduring legacy of Louis Armstrong, celebrating artists who, like him, have dedicated their lives to jazz and its power to inspire. Join us in honoring Reggie Workman, a luminary in his own right, as we continue to make this world a more Wonderful World™ through the language of jazz.
