Cultural Map of Queens
Funded by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA)
About the Project
Flushing Town Hall has been invited by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), to spearhead a new initiative to create a Cultural Map of Queens, documenting the borough's artistic landscape. Our goal is to highlight their rich cultural contributions while addressing the challenges these communities face.
FTH’s Arts Services Team launched The Queens Cultural Mapping Project in May 2024. Since then our Community Coordinators have conducted one-on-one interviews with over 75 artists and arts and culture organizations in Queens with the goal to gather collective stories and understand the challenges shaping the borough’s arts and culture landscape.
Share Your Voice for This Project
Help us shape a more inclusive and comprehensive cultural map of Queens by adding your voice to the project!
We’re looking to connect with more emerging Queens-based artists and arts and culture organizations. Join the project by submitting a contact form to schedule a one-on-one conversation with our Community Coordinators.
These conversations are designed as informal interviews to gather your unique perspective, discuss challenges, identify areas where support is needed, and connect you to a broader network of arts services, resources, venues, and opportunities.
Flushing Town Hall has impacted my community by providing an artistic place to go somewhere to meet other artists, bounce ideas, support with grant writing, and access to space where I can create and show my work. I'm grateful for all of that. It's like having a home- an artistic home. - SHENNA VAUGHN

What’s Ahead?
This project will culminate in a report to be submitted to the New York State Council on the Arts in June 2025, which will also be available to the broader arts and culture community. Additionally, our team will launch a digital map that will visually represent arts and culture organizations across the borough.
Sign up for our Arts Services newsletter to stay updated on the mapping project and upcoming activities in the new year, including professional development workshops and community town hall meetings.
