Please join JH Art Talks for an artist talk on Wednesday, May 15 at 8 pm at Espresso 77 cafe in Jackson Heights, NY, as they open their 2024 artist talk season!

Artist Max Benjamin Sarmiento will present a short talk about their multimedia work which includes paintings, sculptures and drawings. Sarmiento will be followed by featured artist Daniela Gomez Paz who will discuss their multi-layered textile works.

Event will also be live streamed via JH Artist Talks' FB page.
 



Born in Cali, Colombia, Daniela Gomez Paz immigrated to Queens, New York. Her pursued path in the arts and background in pedagogy led her to facilitate a wide range of programs with children, youth, elders and families in schools, museums, and community centers. She acquired a Double Degree: BFA & BA from SUNY Purchase, a MAT from Queens College and an MFA from the Yale School of Art. She has been awarded the Yale’s School of Art Elizabeth Canfield Hicks Award in drawing/painting from nature, the Alice Kimball Traveling Fellowship, and the Fountainhead Residency Fellowship. Gomez Paz’s recent exhibitions include her first two solo shows, Tesando Agujeros at Mindy Solomon Gallery in Miami (2023) and Corrientes Enmarañadas/ Streams of Entanglements at NOON Projects in Los Angeles (2024). She has participated in numerous group exhibitions across NYC, Beijing, Milan, and CDMX. Daniela is currently a lecturer at SUNY Purchase.

Max Benjamin Sarmiento is a multimedia artist based in Queens, New York.  Using paintings, sculptures and drawings he shares intimate moments of his dual Ecuadorian and American upbringing.  Self taught, his work includes a variety of materials such as fabric, foam, glass, paper, paint and wood. Prior to becoming an artist, he pursued a career in architecture where he learned the foundational skills of his practice: model-making, construction and miniatures.His works have been shown in exhibitions throughout New York and in private collections around the world.
