Centro Corona is an intergenerational community arts center in Corona, Queens born from the experience, leadership, and knowledge of working-class and immigrant communities in their neighborhoods to build a self-determined, collectively-imagined future. For over a decade, art projects across disciplines have formed here or later took Centro Corona as their home. In their 12 years of history, they've organized members to design materials for demonstrations; produce community theater; host film showcases; put on dance and music workshops; and feature music performances, poetry readings, open mics, ritual celebrations, and collective reading circles. Como un Lugar is a New York-based collective of Latinx and Latin-American artists, activists, and public scholars. Their mission is to foster and share Latinx and Latin American poetry, music and performance in areas with a high population of Latinx communities, but a lack of cultural events involving live performances. By showcasing Latinx artists' work and sharing it with the community at non-traditional and inclusive venues, they seek to empower each artist they work with and support them by paying fairly and providing a space for them to expand their public outreach and collective networks. Edgemere Farm Works was founded in 2022 with a mission of providing educational, agricultural, musical, and cultural programming to the historically underserved and environmentally disadvantaged neighborhood of Edgemere, Queens. The organization grew out of Edgemere Farm, a half acre volunteer-run urban farm formed in the wake of 2012's Superstorm Sandy. For over a decade, the farm has provided Edgemere (a federally-designated “food desert”) with access to fresh produce, evolving into a safe community hub and a unique space for arts and education in an area that is otherwise lacking in such venues. Hit The Lights! Co. (HTL!) is a multi-disciplinary ensemble based in Astoria, Queens, committed to creating hand-crafted stories and educational programming that emphasize innovation, accessibility, and fun. HTL! is defined by its non-hierarchical, collaborative approach to creating and performing stories. Composed of four experienced, multi-disciplinary artists, the company writes, performs, puppeteers, directs, and produces together, rotating roles depending on the project. The International Human Rights Art Festival (IHRAF) was founded at Dixon Place in March 2017 to create an open space for performance artists-activists in New York City to tell their stories and influence society. IHRAF uses art to open a space for discussion around society's most pressing concerns, as well as facilitate conversation among their diverse audience, and social and political leaders. They create programs based on their values of celebrating diversity; engagement with all members of society; sincerity and vulnerability of presentation, and beauty as a fundamental creative value. The Karla Florez School Of Dance (KFSD)'s mission is to recreate, promote, share, and transmit rhythms of the Colombian Caribbean region such as Cumbia, Bullerengue, and Tambora with different communities, particularly with new generations of Latino populations in NYC, the USA, and overseas. KFSD is led by dancer and choreographer Karla Florez who uses folk dance and contemporary dance techniques, along with other art forms such as storytelling, music and performance, in an interdisciplinary approach that is fundamental to its overall cultural work that has now expanded for almost 20 years. Footlight Presents is an arts and culture promotions company operating an 80 capacity venue space established in 2016 and located in the heart of Ridgewood, Queens.
