The Queens Jazz Orchestra presents a concert to remember and honor the late NEA Jazz Master Albert "Tootie" Heath who was the last living member of "The Heath Brothers", one of America's most prominent Jazz Families from Philadelphia which included brothers Percy Heath, Jimmy Heath, and Drummer Albert
"Tootie" Heath.
Albert Heath passed on April 3, 2024 and each of the three Heath Brothers received NEA Jazz Master Endowments: Percy Heath in 2002, Jimmy Heath in 2003, and Albert "Tootie" Heath in 2021. Albert "Tootie" Heath performed with some of the most prolific musicians in Jazz: Herbie Hancock, Benny Golson, Dexter Gordon, J.J. Johnson, Dexter Gordon, Art Farmer, Wes Montgomery, and his tenure as the drummer with "The Heath Brothers”.
The Queens Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Antonio Hart performs a concert to remember and honor the different worlds of music that Tootie Heath performed and loved to hear.
Tootie Heath has performed at Flushing Town Hall several times with The Heath Brothers, and this concert is performed with him in mind and with love. This concert is a beautiful tribute to the life, music, and memory of a man who championed Jazz and dedicated his life to the music.
